Definition of Karma
The definition of karma within the Current of the Dark Rose differs significantly from the common understanding of karma as simply "cause and effect." In our definition, karma is the Self. Every individual is karma embodied. Karma is not merely a cosmic mechanism that rewards or punishes actions. Rather, it is the continual expression of the soul itself throughout its existence.
The Self is not simply a passive recipient of fate. It is an active participant in shaping its own reality. Through every thought, intention, action, and spiritual petition, the Self continually influences its karmic journey.
When an individual offers a prayer, submits a petition, or performs a ritual, they are not bypassing karma—they are engaging with it. Source receives the petition and reviews it alongside the soul's accumulated karmic record by what we refer to as the Council, which weighs the soul's worthiness, accumulated merit, karmic debts, unresolved lessons, and spiritual evolution across its previous incarnations, present incarnation, and future incarnational trajectory.
Accordingly, the outcome of a petition is not determined solely by the desire of the individual. It is evaluated within the broader context of the soul's karmic existence and whether the requested outcome aligns with its overall evolution. Under this definition, karma is neither reward nor punishment. It is the living expression of the Self in relationship with Source, the universe, and the eternal journey of the soul.
Karma and Agency
Within our definition, inaction is also karma. To choose is karma. To refuse to choose is karma. To act is karma. To refrain from acting is equally karma. Every decision, every omission, every acceptance, and every rejection becomes part of the continual expression of the Self. There is no neutral state in which one stands outside karma.
Accordingly, karma possesses no inherent moral quality. It is neither good nor bad in itself. Karma is simply the unfolding of that which the soul must experience, confront, learn from, transcend, or integrate throughout its eternal journey.
For this reason, the Current of the Dark Rose places far greater emphasis upon self-cultivation, self-mastery, protection, spiritual hygiene, and layered protection than upon offensive workings directed at others. While defensive justice and retaliatory workings exist within our current, they are never presented as substitutes for personal growth. A practitioner who continually seeks to attack others while neglecting their own spiritual cultivation often perpetuates the very karmic patterns they seek to escape.
Practitioner Responsibility and Client Autonomy
Ultimately, every client possesses free will. Every petition submitted, every ritual requested, and every decision made remains the karma of the petitioner to bear. The role of the practitioner is to assess whether a requested working aligns with the ethical standards and operational principles of the Current of the Dark Rose. We reserve the absolute right to decline any service that we believe is spiritually irresponsible, ethically incompatible, or contrary to our current.
Within our definition, practitioners who act in accordance with the established ethics, procedures, and authority of the Current of the Dark Rose do not assume responsibility for the karmic choices voluntarily made by the petitioner. The petitioner alone remains accountable for the intentions they bring forward and the path they choose to walk.
Accordingly, if an individual repeatedly rejects professional guidance, refuses reasonable safeguards, or insists upon a course of action that we believe to be incompatible with our operational ethics, RosesAreDark and the Luciferian Order of the Dark Rose reserve the right to refuse service. We would rather decline a working than knowingly participate in one that falls outside the standards of our current.
This reflects one of the central definitions of the Current of the Dark Rose: true empowerment is measured not by one's ability to influence others, but by one's willingness to cultivate mastery over oneself first.
